Family Friendly Reno Garden Education
Bring your preschooler for hands-on, outdoor learning! Story time, planting, harvesting, and sensory discovery are just a few of the activities you will experience alongside your child. Garden-based education is fantastic for imaginative learning and getting your hands dirty!
Spring 2026
March: Music in the Garden
$35 per day

March 4th: Wednesday 2-4pm
Join your little in the sound of music with open-ended activities set up for them to seek out dance and instruments. We encourage them to band together for a great performance! In the gardens they will get to dig in the dirt, and watch the critters go by as they sow new seeds of life

March 11th: Wednesday 2-4pm
Music is something that we feel, but we don't notice when we can see it too! In these activities, children will be able to experiment with objects to see vibrations and rhythm. During story time this month they will also be encouraged to help create sound effects of a great story

March 13th: Friday 9-11am
In this session, children will be encouraged to create some music themselves! Use clay, seeds, and string to make all different types of tools to enjoy some tunes. Take the sound of rain with you to remember your visit

April: Weather in the Sky
$35 per day

April 8th: Wednesday 2-4pm
Does your child love the wonders of spring rain? Look at the clouds to seek out silly shapes? We'll be encouraging them to further their curiosity through friendly experiments & sensory play. Get a chance to give the seedling a good rain shower as they peek out of the soil!

April 10th: Friday 9-11am
In this session we will have a focus on art to think about the patterns we see in nature such as lightning, ice, and snow. Little will also help plant some seeds to grow around our giant bird cage near the playground!

April 22nd: Wednesday 2-4pm
What storms bring excitement or curiosity in your child's mind? Tornadoes? Rain? Wind? In this session they will be able to explore how these storms are created! Don't forget taste testing around the garden!
May: Splashin' Around
$35 per day

May 6th: Wednesday 2-4pm
Water in all forms has so many possibilities for play! This month's water theme will be filled with fun in the garden as we play games on the lawn, make some art with ice, and practice some fishing! As we get closer to getting ready for the summer, help harvest some spring crops, and take some home!

May 13th: Wednesday 2-4pm
In this session, we will think about critters that live in water. Children will use their imagination to think about rivers, oceans, lakes, and more through sensory play. Take a break to blow some bubbles or make some watercolor art! For garden time we will make a special snack for the chickens

May 15th: Friday 9-11am
This session we will have snow sensory activities using DIY materials that you can make at home! They will also experiment with the flow of water using different tools. Take a look at our saplings and give them a drink of water before you go!
Frequently Asked Questions
What is the age range for participants?
Students 2-5 years old may participate, this includes children that just started Kinder! If you are worried about having an infant tag along with your preschooler, don't! We are more than happy for them to tag along. ​

Where does Little Gardeners take place?
All of our programming is located at our Urban Teaching Farm (1700 E 2nd Street in Reno). Parking across the street is available.
​
When does the program run?
In order to make efforts to be more accessible, we will have a total of 3 sessions per month. 2 sessions on Wednesday 2-4pm and 1 class on a Friday 9-11am. We run this program in the spring and fall. We close the program during the summer and winter months.

How much does it cost?
Tuition is $35 per student. Scholarships are available.

What is your Refund Policy?
No refunds will be issued for cancellations or withdrawals within two weeks of the start of confirmed session. All cancellations must be submitted in writing and submitted to Urban Roots no later than two weeks prior to the start of the session.

What equipment should I bring?
Dress to be outside! It will also be helpful to bring a water bottle, snack, sunscreen, a hat and closed toe shoes.
